Closing Thoughts

Daniel & Revelation – “Closing Thoughts”

8“Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.”

  • Daniel 10

Daniel 12 – “Resurrection and Fulfilment”

Daniel chapter 12 covers much, and it has vital things to say to us. The time periods mentioned resonate with Christ’s time periods in the Book of Revelation and add to ‘the ring of truth’. Dear, faithful Daniel hears these words about himself in the last verse of the book, “But you, go your way and rest; you shall rise for your reward at the end of the days”.

1‘At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”

Daniel 9, Part 1

Daniel chapter 9, Part 1 – “Daniel’s Prayer”

It’s amazing what a prayer can release! Daniel’s prayer is heard in heaven and he finds out that he is “greatly beloved” by God and as a reward is given an important glimpse into the future.

“In the first year of Darius son of Ahasuerus, by birth a Mede, who became king over the realm of the Chaldeans— in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, perceived in the books the number of years that, according to the word of the Lord to the prophet Jeremiah, must be fulfilled for the devastation of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years.”

Daniel 9:1-2 NRSV

Daniel 8

Daniel chapter 8 – “The Ram and The Male Goat”

The Ram and the Goat turn out to be other names for well-known nations – all will become clear!

“In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after the one that had appeared to me at first. In the vision I was looking and saw myself in Susa the capital, in the province of Elam, and I was by the river Ulai.  I looked up and saw a ram standing beside the river.”

Daniel 8:1-3 NRSV

Daniel 7

Daniel chapter 7 – “Visions of Four Beasts”

In chapter 7, we move into the more mysterious part of Daniel’s prophecy: visions, beasts and scary images! But don’t worry, even these mean something interesting and important!

“I, Daniel, saw in my vision by night the four winds of heaven stirring up the great sea, and four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another.”

Daniel 7:2-3 NRSV

Daniel 6

Daniel chapter 6 – “Daniel’s Enemies – God’s Answer”

This is one of the best known of all Bible stories – Daniel in the lion’s den! However! Daniel’s enemies reckoned without God! Daniel’s courage and faithfulness are breathtaking!

“Then the king gave the command, and Daniel was brought and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you faithfully serve, deliver you!””

Daniel 6:16 NRSV

Daniel 4

Daniel chapter 4 – “Nebuchadnezzar Confesses All”

Daniel chapter 4 contains the brave and honest confessions of a humble man – King Nebuchadnezzar!  Now a changed man of God!  It is a very exciting chapter to read!

“King Nebuchadnezzar to all peoples, nations, and languages that live throughout the earth: May you have abundant prosperity!

The signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me I am pleased to recount.”

Daniel 4:1-2 NRSV

Daniel 3

Daniel chapter 3 – “The Golden Image; Three Godly Men”

Another large statue features in Daniel 3. But this time the statue has been made by Nebuchadnezzar to pander to his own pride and vanity.

Daniel’s three friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, refuse to worship it. And the outcome is both terrifying and glorious!

“King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its breadth six cubits. He set it up on the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.”

Daniel 3:1 RSV
