Closing Thoughts

Daniel & Revelation – “Closing Thoughts”

8“Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.”

1 Corinthians 13:8 NRSVA
  • Closing Thoughts
Josee gives us some inspiring parting thoughts at the end of these Bible study series on the Books of Revelation and Daniel.
  • Daniel 12
Daniel chapter 12 covers much, and it has vital things to say to us. The time periods mentioned resonate with Christ’s time periods in the Book of Revelation and add to ‘the ring of truth’. Dear, faithful Daniel hears these words about himself in the last verse of the book, “But you, go your way and rest; you shall rise for your reward at the end of the days”.
  • Daniel 11
Some are afraid of this chapter because of its historical accuracy. It is a detailed description of hundreds of years yet future to Daniel. In fact, it raises the question for all of us, “Is this prophecy guided by an all-knowing God?” “‘The king shall act as he pleases. He shall exalt himself and consider …

  • Daniel 10
In Daniel chapter 10, we, with Daniel, see a vision that the apostle John might have recognised. Both Daniel and John saw things that ‘took their breath away’ and that no one else had ever seen, where Christ’s involvement is clearly evident.
  • Daniel 9, Part 2
Daniel chapter 9, Part 2 – “The Seventy Sevens”. It’s amazing what a prayer can release! Daniel’s prayer is heard in heaven and he finds out that he is “greatly beloved” by God and as a reward is given an important glimpse into the future.

Daniel 9, Part 2

Daniel chapter 9, Part 2 – “The Seventy Sevens”

It’s amazing what a prayer can release! Daniel’s prayer is heard in heaven and he finds out that he is “greatly beloved” by God and as a reward is given an important glimpse into the future.

‘Seventy weeks are decreed for your people and your holy city: to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.”

Daniel 9:24 NRSVA

Daniel 6

Daniel chapter 6 – “Daniel’s Enemies – God’s Answer”

This is one of the best known of all Bible stories – Daniel in the lion’s den! However! Daniel’s enemies reckoned without God! Daniel’s courage and faithfulness are breathtaking!

“Then the king gave the command, and Daniel was brought and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you faithfully serve, deliver you!””

Daniel 6:16 NRSV

Daniel 3

Daniel chapter 3 – “The Golden Image; Three Godly Men”

Another large statue features in Daniel 3. But this time the statue has been made by Nebuchadnezzar to pander to his own pride and vanity.

Daniel’s three friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, refuse to worship it. And the outcome is both terrifying and glorious!

“King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its breadth six cubits. He set it up on the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.”

Daniel 3:1 RSV

Daniel 2

Daniel Chapter 2 – “Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream”

Daniel 2 brings us a description, not only of Nebuchadnezzar’s spectacular dream, but of Daniel’s God-inspired interpretation of it.

“In the second year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed such dreams that his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him.”

Daniel 2:1 NRSV

Daniel 1

Daniel Chapter 1 – “From Jerusalem to Babylon”

Daniel 1 describes Nebuchadnezzar’s conquest of Jerusalem, the capture of Daniel and his three friends and their brave determination to stand up for what they believe to be right before God.

“To these four young men God gave knowledge and skill in every aspect of literature and wisdom; Daniel also had insight into all visions and dreams.”

Daniel 1:17

Revelation 18

Revelation 18 – “The Collapse of World Economy”

In Chapter 18, we witness the fall of ‘Babylon’ and the destruction of the world economies, which brings great distress to the world’s merchants. We also have God’s warning to his people to come out of religious organisations that are false before it is too late!

“Then I heard another voice from heaven saying,
“Come out of her, my people,
so that you do not take part in her sins,
and so that you do not share
in her plagues;
for her sins are heaped high as heaven,
and God has remembered her iniquities.”

Revelation 18:4-5 NRSV

Revelation 17

Revelation Chapter 17 – “Great Powers in Conflict”

In Chapter 17, the ‘woman’ who temporarily rules the Beast is destroyed by the Beast and his allies.

1‘Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great whore who is seated on many waters, 2with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and with the wine of whose fornication the inhabitants of the earth have become drunk.”’

Revelation 17:1-2 NRSV

Revelation 15

Revelation Chapter 15 – “The Angels With The Seven Last Plagues Made Ready”

In this chapter, we see the preparation for the pouring out of God’s final judgements. We witness the outpouring of praise to God of the 144,000 of the redeemed.

1Then I saw another portent in heaven, great and amazing: seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, for with them the wrath of God is ended.
2And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands.”

Revelation 15:1-2

Revelation 12, Part 3

Revelation Chapter 12, Part 3 – “God’s Reassurance to His people.”

In Revelation chapter 12, we identify three ways that God’s people have overcome the evil one.

7And war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, 8but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.”

Revelation 12:7-8
